Abstract Artist
My artistic pursuits are fuelled by an interest in perception, illusion and creating layers.Debbie Allardyce
I am interested in visual illusion and how we might think we see one thing initially but on closer inspection, it might be seen as another.
In my paintings I aim to create visually contradictory images within imaginary worlds.
I then mix abstract shape with representative image to further challenge the viewer to question, wonder and look beyond what it is they think they see.
Process
I work in water-based mediums
My process usually starts with a printerly element. I work with these grounds pulling and pushing the marks until they take on a story of their own.
I like to use layers to create something of interest on the surface at the same time as having something for the viewer to find beneath it.
